History
Tripoli Cancer Center was established pursuant to Resolution of the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord No. (415) in May 2017 to be an addition to the services for diagnosing and treating cancer in Libya.
Immediately after the issuance of the decision, the founding team continued to work according to the principles of modern management in dealing with new projects. We began the first meetings to develop the vision and mission and determine the values with which the center deals.
The tasks included in the decision were classified and discussed during the development of the operating plan and proposing the organizational structure that can implement the vision and mission of the center. It is no secret that we faced some difficulties emanating from the old and applicable management method, which we saw as the necessity of keeping pace with the existing one in some points and insisting on modernization in other points that we considered a basis for our work.
A vision for the proposed future staffing of the center was prepared and the cadre was approved in 2020.
We faced many obstacles in obtaining a site for the project. We were looking for a site that is close to the University of Tripoli and the Tripoli University Hospital in order to make benefit from the experience of other specialties at the hospital and to make collaboration easier with other departments in university in research. We visited the key faculty deans at the University to explain our project and this was concluded by a formal meeting with the chairman of the university and the faculty deans when we go the agreement to get a land from the university at the requested site.
Still the project is in its first steps at the main site, but we already established services since 2019 first at Al-Badri polyclinic where we got 4 rooms and we used them for care of women with breast cancer. Then we got another clinic in Janzour, west of Tripoli, where we started receiving patients with colorectal and prostate cancer. The Janzour clinic is now updated to serve as a day hospital serving the western region of Tripoli.
A start full of challenges and difficulties for a group of our people who need our support and care in their battle against cancer.
